Link Hook Up FAQ

What exactly is Link Hook Up prodiving?

We provide you with a method to obtain more people to link back to your site, and then in turn you should receive more traffic while giving other people more traffic.

Isn't this just like BlogSnob or one of those webrings?

Not exactly. See BlogSnob used to display a single random site that isn't yours on your own site. Webrings do sort of show a chain of command within the links, but they typically refer back to a middle man site before directing you to the next site. With Link Hook Up you will almost always link to the same 5 sites.

How do I get referals?

There are many ways that you can get referals within our system. The first is that people will see the simple bit of code on your site and want the same thing on theirs and when they click the link on your site to visit ours, you become a referal for that person. If someone doesn't come in with a referal code, then we randomly select a site to be the referal for that person.

Do I have to show the Link Hook Up code to participate?

Yes. This is because you need to check in within every 14 days with our server. This is done by showing the code on your site. Every time your site displays our code, your site checks in.

Can I change the way the code is displayed on my site?

Yes. Our code is just a simple unordered list with an id of lh and all of our li tags have a class of lhlink. Just change how they are in your css code.

What if one the sites I am linking too suddenly stops being active or becomes invalid?

After 14 days of a site not reporting into our service, you have the ability to update your 5 links to ensure that you have a valid set of links.

How do you determain which link replaces a bad one?

The nice part about our system is that we know who referred who based on the order of your links. So thus if the 3rd link in your system went bad, we would replace it with another site that the 2nd link in your system refered. If there are no other referals from that link, then we replace it with what we call a "top site"

What exactly are "top sites" and how to I become one?

Top Sites are called Top Sites because well they can be listed in the 4 boxes of random sites we have at the top. In addition to being listed at the top of the page, Top Sites are also entered into our "Higher Referal" category. To become a Top Site all you have to do is upgrade your links for a monthly fee of $2.99.

What all do I get for the monthly fee of $2.99?

In addition to being randomly selected from time to time to be at the top of the page and to fill in gaps in link chains where needed, you also get the ability to be selected more frequently when someone arrives at our site without a referal. When this happens, we randomly select a site to be the referal. But Top Sites get picked more frequently as the pool of Top Sites is smaller, and we pick from this pool 50% of the time.

What do I need in order to run the code on my site?

Right now you have to have a server running PHP. If anyone out there is able to include their include file via a different method, please contact me and let me know how so I can get that code posted.

I included the code on my site, but I get an error of "File Access is disabled"

You have two options. 1. Ask your host to turn this on for you, or 2. create a php.ini file in the directory where you included our code to have the following: allow_url_fopen=on; allow_url_include=on;

I am still getting an error, what now?

You should contact me and I will try to help you as best as I could.
